After his wife died in 1998, Marvin Petsel knew little about dealing with the issues of grief and mourning. Of course he would not admit that to anyone at that time. After a few years, he learned that others were in the same or similar situations and was persuaded that he might be able to help in some way. After training, he entered a world he had not yet discovered: grief support groups. He has found that sharing personal grief stories can be very cathartic but found few men involved and few publications regarding men’s grief. Consequently he has been a volunteer grief support group facilitator for nine years at Journey of Hope Grief Support Center. He is certified in the study of death and dying (CT) by the Association of Death Education and Counseling (ADEC). He is a Distinguished Toastmaster in Toastmasters International and is available to speak to groups regarding grief. He has since remarried, has five sons counting his own and his wife Barb’s and two wonderful grandchildren.
